Early in 2004 we were given the opportunity to long term rent a wonderful area of land in The North Yorkshire Moors National Park nr Whitby. We decided from the beginning that the campsite should be constructed from recycled, reclaimed and found objects. Our 20 acre site is specifically designed to be low impact and environmentally aware of this area of outstanding beauty. With this in mind, the camping is low energy (candles and fairy lights), low pollution (no nasty chemicals or generators) and respectful to wildlife (the quieter you are the more chance you have of seeing the deer). Our showers are in a converted byre, the compost loo is in a original vintage wooden shepherds hut and we have an open air roll-top bath in the orchard area. We like to hope that being green does not mean you can't be comfy, have a laugh or eat chocolate cake. The site has a limited number of visitors at a time, making it undercrowded. We hope you find it a fantasy land full of nostalgia, romance and all things kitsch, camp and bohemian. There are vintage and classic caravans including chrome Roma's full of etched glass, a converted truck with woodburner and a tipi. Each van is furnished in keeping with it's theme and includes funky decorations, vintage fabrics and kitsch items chosen to make you smile. The beds are cosy with good quality futon mattresses, cotton sheets and plump eiderdowns... there are no nylon sleeping bags to be found in our camp. We take individual or group bookings and can accommodate up to sixteen people altogether. We welcome and aim to provide for all ages and types of people (except racists, bigots or puritans!).
